MISTY RIVER, an all female acoustic quartet, calls the Pacific Northwest home. These talented women masterfully arrange their own material which includes award-winning original songs, traditionals and other favorite songs and tunes from many genres.

Yet, they are probably best known for their "stop you in your tracks" vocal harmonies where each member contributes a different lead vocal timbre that makes the whole "greater than the sum of its parts". Add some astonishing musicianship and you have ... MISTY RIVER!

Misty River takes one-year hiatus Sept. 22, 2008 - September 22, 2009
Misty River News Heartfelt greetings to Misty River fans and friends around the USA.  Misty River will be taking a one-year hiatus from performing starting September 22nd 2008 through September 2009.  Misty River will continue to sell our CD's in retail stores, www.mistyriverband.com and www.cdbaby.com during that time.  Misty River is NOT breaking up - we are just taking a break.  The year will go by fast - wait and see!!

Successfully running the indie band Misty River has been the main focus for all of us over the last 11 years since our inception in 1997 at an Irish Pub in Portland, OR.  Dana, Chris, Laura and I each feel the need for a different focus and different kinds of inspirations which will strengthen ourselves AND our music when we rejoin in 2009.

'Misty River' an enchanting experience

Irene Alfieri/Special to the Mercury-Register

Misty River enchanted student matinee attendees and Oroville Concert Association members alike with a rich mix of 'Americana' music, merging their delicate vocal harmony with an array of traditional instruments. The all-female band; Carol Harley (guitar, banjo, ukulele, mandolin), Chris Kokesh (fiddle, guitar), Laura Quigley (acoustic bass), and Dana Abel (accordion, guitar) tours from a base in Oregon, their unique sound shaped as much by the love of traditional music as by love of the land. To the fertile Willamette Valley, the Oregon Trail propelled thousands of pioneers westward, bringing with them music of the east coast, Appalachia, and the heartland, encompassing traditional music, folk songs, country, bluegrass, Celtic, hymnody, and highly rhythmic 'jubilees.' This blend of music is identifiably American, yet shaped from various influences and annealed by the character of the country.
